Motorhomes are great, however regardless of how large your unit is, the floor space can be very limiting. The simplest and most effective way to increase this is by investing in an awning. Your living space instantly increases and you also have a part of your pitch next to your motorhome that is undercover.
What awning is best?
There are two main types of awnings on the market for motorhomes, all having their own benefits. Choosing an awning is similar to that of choosing a tent, deciding on fabrics, groundsheets and more and although there are awnings to fit all kinds of motorhomes, it is important that you choose one that will suit your needs.
Drive-Away awnings
Drive-away awnings are self-supporting and they attach to your motorhome’s awning rail. The big benefit of these is that you can simply slip it off the rail and leave the awning structure behind on your pitch and take your vehicle out for the day. Some awnings even provide extra sleeping accommodation but why not use this space as extra storage or pop some nice relaxing chairs or a table and enjoy the view under cover and protected from the elements.
The canopy awning
A canopy awning can be permanently or temporarily fixed to the side of your motorhome. If you go for a permanent one, these are very similar to roller blinds where they unfurl from the side of your accommodation, these will usually have some poles that will fold down and form legs for stability. These can’t be left on site either when you go on a day trip, so be prepared to put in the extra effort of folding these away.
There are many reasons why you should consider an awning, mainly because it offers you extra outdoor space and protection from the elements.
