Outdoor Film and TV Locations to Visit – UK Edition

The UK is home to a large number of outdoor film and TV locations that have been filmed in the UK and are great days out for all. You’ll find locations featured in Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World, Bridgerton and many more. Keep reading below to find the best locations you can visit for a fun day out!

Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland

The Glenfinnan Viaduct is notoriously known as one of the most popular film locations in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The Glenfinnan Viaduct has a total of 21 arches which count for stunning views and really makes you feel like you’re on the way to Hogwarts. Take a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train to feel like you’re on your way to Hogwarts, or visit Loch Shiel, Loch Eilt or Loch Morar to experience the Hogwarts Lake and, if you’re lucky, see the steam train pass through!

We’d recommend planning a fun day out to visit this location which has become a popular spot for fans of Harry Potter. It’s also a great way of getting in some hiking and taking in those breath-taking views.

Painshill Park - Surrey

If you’re a fan of the popular Netflix hit show, Bridgerton, Painshill Park is the perfect location for you to visit. With incredibly picturesque views, Painshill Park is a great day out for lovers of the show where you can fully immerse yourself in the 18th Century landscape and visit the tearoom to finish off the day.

Alnwick Castle – Northumberland

Alnwick Castle is a well-known location featured in Harry Potter. Most known for its feature in the broomstick practice scene in the Philosopher Stone. The Castle was built following the Norman Conquest and has been renovated and remodelled a number of times since. The castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK and is home to the 12th Duke of Northumberland.

Lyme Park – Cheshire

Lymm Park was home to Mr Darcy’s estate, Pemberley in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. For fans of Pride and Prejudice, this is a great location to visit for lovers of the show and book. Owned by the National Trust, Lyme Park is a great day out for those who love venturing around formal gardens and historic mansions. The Mansion was built during the Elizabethan era in the 16th Century.

Chatsworth – Derbyshire

Chatsworth was also used as Mr Darcy’s Pemberley estate in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and more recently a location for the hit Netflix series about the Royal Family, The Crown. Chatsworth is home to the Duke of Devonshire and is a stunning spot to visit. Chatsworth has spectacular gardens, art and an organic farm which make for a great day out for lovers of history and Pride and Prejudice.

Castle Ward – Northern Ireland

Have you ever wanted to visit Winterfell? Well, you can take a trip to Castle Ward which was made the famous setting in Game of Thrones. Castle Ward was the location of the Whispering Wood, the Baelor battle and the confrontation between Brienne and the Stark Men during the first seasons of Game of Thrones.

Castle Ward is part of the National Trust which makes a great day out for those who want to venture to multiple National Trust properties that are home to great movie locations.

Stonehenge - Salisbury

Stonehenge is one of the most popular locations in the UK to visit for many reasons, but if you need another to add to the mix, it’s that Thor: The Dark World, Transformers: The Last Knight and Doctor Who have been filmed at this great monument.

You can live in the footsteps of Neolithic and Bronze Age Ancestors as you explore the iconic stone circle and discover of how its people may have lived. Stonehenge is a great location for anyone to visit and takes you back in time.

Bourne Woods - Farnham

Bourne Woods is a popular film location in Farnham. Having been featured in hit 2000’s film Gladiator, alongside Avengers: Age of Ultron, Snow White and the Huntsman, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price and Wonder Woman.

The woods are an incredibly popular film location and is a great location to visit and experience nature at its best.
