Autumn is here, and one of our favourite seasons to get out in nature! With the stark change in the environment from summer to Autumn, now is the best time to get out and learn about the natural world around us. Check out some of our favourite ways to do just that below.
Go To a Pumpkin Patch:
Picking your own pumpkin is a fabulous way to get the whole family out in nature this Autumn. Most Pumpkin patches charge a small fee for entry, but once you’re in you are free to explore to your heart's content. With Pumpkin patches upping their game every year, some patches now even include fun activities such as scavenger hunts and mazes. You can find Pumpkin Patches in your local area via Google or Facebook.
Nature Scavenger Hunt:
With Autumn being one of the seasons where we notice the biggest change in nature, Scavenger hunts are a fabulous way to get outdoors. Simply wrap up warm and head to a local park, woods, or field and challenge each other to find certain objects, such as leaves acorns, or conkers.
Nature Art:
This can be incorporated within the Scavenger Hunt, but picking Autumn objects such as leaves, and using them as art is a great way to get your family to be creative, whilst also helping them learn about the changing environment around them.
Build a fort:
Building a fort is fun in all seasons, but especially in Autumn, giving your kids a fun viewing point to watch the changing environment. Whether you pop a small tent up in the garden or throw a sheet over your garden furniture, just be sure to get creative and create a fort that the whole family will love.
Visit a Corn Maze:
Corn Mazes have been popping up all over the UK in recent years, simply go to Google or Facebook to find one in your local area. Not only are they a fabulous way to get outdoors, but they’re also great for teaching young people skills such as orienteering and teamwork.
Make a Hedgehog House:
Creating a hedgehog house in your Garden in the Autumn is a great way to look out for our prickly little friends. Efficient Winter nests are essential for hedgehogs to survive their hibernation. In Autumn, Hedgehogs start collecting materials to build their homes, and creating a hedgehog house gives these little creatures the perfect starting point to create their hibernation hotel.
