Winter Essentials

With Winter upon us, it’s important to ensure that whilst out and about on your winter travels, you have the essential items you need to keep you warm and safe. We’ve put together this blog to give you all the items that you need in your winter essentials kit.

Most importantly, the key to staying warm in the winter is to wrap up warm with lots of layers and spare clothing in case you get wet. It’s always a good idea to pack spare clothing when you go away on your winter adventures in case you get wet and you need to change your clothing. Here’s the clothing we recommend taking away with you:

  • Fleece Jacket
  • Base Layer clothing such as thermals
  • Hats, Scarf and Gloves
  • Woolly Socks
  • Waterproof clothing such as rain jackets and trousers

Sleeping is probably one of the hardest parts of camping in the Winter and this is mainly due to the fact you aren’t moving around as much, which means you could get colder faster. We recommend that to avoid this, you need to ensure you have lots of warm layers on whilst you’re sleeping but also making sure you have a sleeping bag that will keep you warm in incredibly low temperatures. We’d recommend purchasing a 4-season sleeping bag which will help to keep you warm in cold temperatures. Whilst sleeping we’d also recommend taking a blanket with you as an extra layer of warmth.

Whilst camping during the winter does entail mainly trying to stay warm, there are a variety of accessories that you need to make sure that you have the right equipment to camp during the winter such as:

It’s always important when you’re camping in the winter months to make sure you have lots of high energy food and that you eat often to ensure your energy levels are high so that if you are cold, your body is using up that extra energy you need by eating regularly.

At OLPRO we put together a camping cookbook full of quick and easy meals to make that are filling and are made with hearty meals. You can order your OLPRO camping cookbook over on our website here.
